Although it used to be looked down upon by common culture, it is now acceptable for family members to host the Bridal Shower. However, ideally this should be hosted by either the Maid/Matron of Honor, or the Bridesmaids. Traditionally this is a “girls-only” event, but now the more common thing is what is commonly called a “Couples Shower” where both Bride and Groom are present. In this situation, don’t invite just women- that will make the Groom a bit uncomfortable, it is ok to invite other men. Especially family members and the men in the Bridal party.
The Bride and Groom should register for gifts at least 8 weeks before the scheduled Bridal Shower. The Bridal Shower should fall between two months and two weeks before the wedding. Ice-breaker games can be played to lighten the mood, and a good way for people from both sides of the family to get acquainted.
Bridal Showers can also be centered around a theme to help the bride and groom get items that they really need. Common Bridal Shower themes include “Stock the Pantry” where guests bring their favorite recipe on a card and ingredients to go along with it, “Room of the House” is where each guest is “assigned” a room and bring gifts for that room only. Party’s can be held pretty much anywhere. Talk over with the Bride and/or Groom to see what there thoughts on location are. Also, find out if you’re wanting to serve a meal or just have h’orderves and drinks. Don’t forget to hand out personalized party favors to all the guests.
