When getting married, having pets needs to be a mutual decision. Bringing a pet into your home is similar in many ways to having a child. Both partners must agree to having one, sharing the care and expenses. It may be hard for you to change your mind if you were brought up a certain way; these ideas are engrained in your head and can be difficult to break. Maybe you did not have animals in the home and this can cause problems if one of you is allergic or you do not feel that pets should be pampered and should be treated as such, animals. So make sure if only one of you is an animal lover that you discuss these issues before the wedding. Too many marriages have ended in divorce due to pet disagreements.

However, Newlyweds who have pets already usually find the transition easier. However, many pets do not. They may not like your partner and shy away from them, dogs and cats may bite, growl and hiss at your new partner. Many pack type animals like dogs are territorial so they may fight for the pack leader position, or cause physical problems to your new home by wetting the carpet or chewing on furniture. So make sure that you introduce your pets early on in the relationship prior to getting married , let them play together or hang out together when you are on dates as well.

If you don’t already know about the nationally acclaimed dog behavior specialist, The Dog Whisperer, Caesar Millan, we suggest you visit his website, and check out his tips and his online videos of his hit show on the National Geographic channel. His main techniques are for dogs, however, his concept on human behavior can probably work for cats too.
